First Step in the Biden-Harris Transition to the White House? Launch a Twitter Account, Website

A new Twitter account has been launched for the Biden-Harris presidential transition, along with a website highlighting the incoming administration’s priorities.

The verified account, with the handle @Transition46, had already amassed more than 60,000 followers early Sunday morning. It is following two people: President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Launched hours after Biden and Harris delivered their victory speeches, the account has posted one tweet so far—a video narrated by Biden, highlighting the priorities of his administration, and urging Americans to visit the transition’s website—buildbackbetter.com—for more information.

“We stand together, finally, as one America,” Biden says in the 50-second clip. “We’ll rise stronger than we were before. We will act on the first day of my presidency to get COVID under control.

“We’ll act to pass my economic plan that will finally reward work, not wealth, in this country. We’ll act to restore our faith in democracy, and our faith in one another. We’ll once more become one nation, under God, indivisible, a nation united, a nations strengthened, a nation healed.”

On the transition’s website, four priorities are highlighted: COVID-19, economic recovery, racial equity and climate change.

“We aren’t just going to rebuild what has worked in the past. This is our opportunity to build back better than ever,” the website says.

The website lists the Biden-Harris administration’s seven-point plan to beat COVID-19, which includes implementing nationwide mask mandates.

It also includes ensuring all Americans have access to regular, reliable, and free testing; fixing personal protective equipment (PPE) problems for good, and providing “clear, consistent, evidence-based” guidance for how communities should navigate the pandemic.

It also involves planning for the “effective, equitable distribution” of treatments and vaccines; protecting older Americans and other high-risk groups; and expanding the defenses to “predict, prevent, and mitigate” pandemic threats.

To aid the country’s economic recovery, the website says Biden “has a plan to create millions of good-paying jobs, make it easier for workers to organize unions and collectively bargain, and to give America’s working families the tools, choices, and freedom they need to build back better.”

But it adds: “We can’t solve the jobs crisis until we solve the public health crisis.”

The website also specifically outlined how the Biden-Harris administration plans to tackle systemic racism in the U.S., after months of protests against police brutality sparked a reckoning on race this year.

The Biden-Harris administration will work with Congress to pass police reform legislation, the website says. This includes: a nationwide ban on chokeholds; stopping the transfer of weapons of war to police forces; improving oversight and accountability, to create a model use-of-force standard; and to create a national police oversight commission.

On climate change, Biden will go further than just recommitting the U.S. to the Paris Agreement, the website says. “He is working to lead an effort to get every major country to ramp up the ambition of their domestic climate targets,” it adds.

Biden will also work to ensure the U.S. is “never caught flat-footed again” by working to launch a national effort “aimed at creating the jobs we need to build modern, sustainable infrastructure now and deliver an equitable clean energy future.”
