Sam Heughan confirmed that he auditioned for James Bond.
The “Outlander” actor recently spoke with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on “This Morning.” He was asked about the James Bond rumors and he revealed that he did audition to be the next secret agent.
“Yeah I did [audition to be James Bond],” Heughan admitted.
“Obviously it’s a dream for every actor… I did audition for it back when they were doing Bond 21 when Daniel Craig was cast for Casino Royale. I think a lot of actors were seen in the UK – of course, it would be a dream role and a Scottish Bond, who wouldn’t want to see another Scottish Bond?”
When asked if he would take the call if the Eon producers were to contact him, the actor gave a positive response.
“Yeah you guys I need to jump off this call because I’m waiting for Barbara Broccoli!” he said.
According to Ladbrokes, Heughan is among the favorites to be the next James Bond after Craig. Back in March, the odds of Heughan playing the roll went to 3/1 leapfrogging Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston at 5/1. James Norton is also another favorite at 2/1.
“A flurry of bets have forced us to slash odds on Sam Heughan replacing Daniel Craig as Bond, and he now looks to be James Norton’s only real challenger for the role,” said Alex Apati of Ladbrokes.
Meanwhile, the next James Bond movie, “No Time To Die” is set to hit theaters on Nov. 20, which is five days earlier than what was previously announced. Meanwhile, the release date in the U.K. remains unchanged, on Nov. 12.
In related news, Heughan opened up in April about the abuse he received from trolls in the past six years. According to the “Island at War” actor in a lengthy post on Twitter, he experienced constant bullying and harassment.
Some were “personal slurs, shaming, abuse, death threats, stalking, sharing of private information and vile, false narratives.” There were also claims that he was manipulating his fans. Meanwhile, others alleged that he’s a homosexual.
