Paul English drummer dies at age 87, publicist says.
Paul English, longtime drummer for Willie Nelson, passed away at 87 on Wednesday, according to the Rolling Stone.
Paul was the subject of Willie’s song, “Me & Paul”.
English was born in Vernon, TX and joined Nelson’s band in 1966. Rolling Stone said that English wasn’t only his drummer, but he was also his enforcer and “de facto bodyguard”.
English was the subject in a feature in the Oxford American in January 2015 called “Watching Willie’s Back.”
They also said the first time English ever played the drums was with Willie Nelson. Nelson even named one of his daughters, Paula, after English.
