Great Danes kill woman, found dead in her home (Reports).
Authorities say a woman found dead in her home last week was killed by her pet Great Danes, according to reports.
An investigator with the Warren County Coroner’s Office tells the Journal-News that Mary Matthews, 49, of Clearcreek Township, was pronounced dead at about 5 p.m. Friday. WHIO Channel 7 reports Matthews had multiple dog bites and likely bled to death.
Matthews was found by her husband, Dale Mark Matthews, who had been in jail for two days for failure to pay child support, the Journal-News reports. Two Great Danes lived in the home.
“I never wanted Great Danes but she wanted to rescue them,” Dale Matthews tells WHIO. “She loved animals so I let her get them. I probably should have put my foot down and said, ‘no,’ obviously.” Dale Matthews told officials the dogs were aggressive, reports say.
Police tell NBC News that Mary Matthews might have been highly intoxicated and didn’t call for help, not realizing how badly she had been injured by the dogs. Police had been called to the home initially on a report of a possible overdose. The dogs will be euthanized, NBC News reports.
